Activities for your next family motorhome trip.

April 3, 2020

When you are planning your next family holiday in a motorhome hire, it’s easy to create family memories with these easy ‘quality time’ activities!

Hands up who’s ever secretly felt a bit daunted by the prospect of spending an extended period cooped up with the kids?  Please don’t feel alone – as it happens, we are somewhat experts on this subject!  We’ll help make your family motorhome trip awesome.

A lot of families LOVE motorhome hire holidays and they look forward to getting in real quality time together – being able to enjoy a multitude of places and activities on a whim, without the stress of having to pack bags and lunches and getting everyone out of the house on time…but occasionally, there’s also a little voice whispering quietly ”but how on earth will I keep the kids entertained for all that time?”

Fear not, we have your back!  Here are a few tried and tested collection of activities that kids love, using things that everyone has in their motorhome (or house for that matter) that we like to call (and please do feel free to sing along in your best 80’s soft-rock voice):

‘Making fun out of nothing of all!’

Stuff required: a hat, a few coins.

Instructions:  Put the hat upside-down on the ground, and mark out ‘start’ lines at varying distances from the hat, to reflect the age of the players. (I mean the kids; Grandpa! Get back on your line!) Throw the coins at the hat and see who gets the most in.  Surprisingly fun!

Riddle me this!

Stuff required: this blog…or your phone and an internet connection.

Instructions: If your kids are different ages, give them one each to figure out.  Make sure the riddles are reasonably easy to solve, and if they’ve been pondering for a while and are not even in the ballpark, start giving little clues! You’ll love seeing the pride on their faces when (even if they’ve pretty much been given the answer), they riddle it out!  Here are some favs:

Younger kids

  • What has a face and two hands, but no arms or legs? A clock.
  • What must be broken before you can use it?  An egg.

Older kids

  • A cowboy rode into town on Friday.  He stayed in town for two days and rode out on Friday.  How is that possible? Friday is the name of his horse.
  • My life can be measured in hours, I serve by being devoured, I start life tall and end it small. What am I? A candle.

Outdoor gallery!

Stuff required: The great outdoors!

But the most super-duper important thing to remember is that quality is always better than quantity with children.  Even a few minutes of fully-engaged, uninterrupted time spent together makes so much difference to their sense of confidence and self-worth so it doesn’t really matter what you do together, just as long as you’re doing it together!
