POST UPDATE TO INCLUDE THE STAIRCASE TO THE MOON MARKETS:
When the tide is out at Roebuck Bay and the full moon is rising, its reflection on the exposed mudflats creates an unusual optical illusion of a staircase making its way up to the moon. The best position to enjoy this sight is from Town Beach. We’ve posted before about the dates for 2016 read that blog post here.

- 13 – 15 March 2017
- 12 – 14 April 2017
- 11 – 13 May 2017
- 10 – 12 June 2017
- 10 – 12 July 2017
- 8 – 10 August 2017
- 7 – 9 September 2017
- 6 – 8 October 2017
Each time the full moon rises, markets are set up to help create a spectacular event for those who wish to go along and witness it. The market dates for 2017 are as follows:
- May 11 & 12
- June 10 & 11
- July 10 & 11
- August 8 & 9
- September 7 & 8
- October 6 & 7
Market location is at the Town Beach Reserve, Broome from 5pm.
If you’re travelling up the WA coastline at this time, we really suggest making a stop to see this spectacular phenomenon! If you are around Broome near the dates note above, it is also when there are large tides, which is one of the things the Kimberley Region is known for. This will result in an awesome experience if you are planning on seeing the Horizontal Waterfalls.
