There really is so much to see on this stunning drive between Adelaide and Melbourne via the coast. Others prefer to do a mixture of heading inland and popping back out to the coast, or if you have a bit more time, you could do a round trip. Some of our favourite locations are of course the Great Ocean Road, including the 12 Apostles and the waterfalls and rainforest around Otway National Park. Part of this area is known as Shipwreck Coast which is dramatic as it sounds. There’s plenty of opportunities while travelling in your camper to visit wineries, both at the Melbourne end at the Yarra Valley or Mornington Peninsular or at the Adelaide end with the popular and world famous Barossa Region, McLaren Vale or Eden Valley. And don’t forget you can even check out wineries in the middle like at Coonawarra amongst other regions.
North of Warrnambool at the western end of the Great Ocean Road you can head north if you enjoy walking and spectacular scenery to the Grampians National Park, or visit the volcanic area around Mt Eccles National Park if you’d like to get off the beaten path somewhat.
Continuing west you meet the spectacular Limestone Coast, where you’ll also want to head north a little to visit Mt Gambier. This is a very interesting town to spend some time exploring the crater lake (Blue Lake) and sink holes of which some have been turned into gardens.
The Limestone Coast is home to some very picturesque towns like Southend, Beachport and of course the pinnacle Robe.
