Sydney Motorhome Rentals Depot Locations

Sometimes our clients like a night or two in a city hotel before collecting the camper, for others they go straight from the airport to the depot.  If you are flying in on the day of your motorhome collection, make sure you have allowed enough time to get to the depot before closing – no one needs any added stress on the first day of holiday! What’s the best way to get you to the motorhome vehicle depot? Regardless of which depot you are heading to, none of the depots provide transfers to or from the airport, so it is our suggestion to grab a taxi or Uber instead of other forms of public transport as it’s more direct and you’ll find it quicker.

Nearest Supermarkets

Before you head out onto the open road, we always suggest topping up with supplies and groceries before you set off. We’ve located some of the nearest ones to the depots for your ease of reference and they are as follows:

From Apollo | Cheapa | Hippie and Star RV

SUPA IGA Taren Point – 123 Parraweena Rd, Taren Point NSW 2229. Tel: (02) 9525 8122. They have suitable parking for large vehicles such as motorhomes.

From Maui | Britz | Mighty

We suggest the Woolworths on 497-501 Bunnerong Rd, Matraville NSW 2036. Tel: (02) 8565 9294. Most of the supermarkets surrounding the depot, unfortunately, do not have suitable parking for a large motorhome but the Woolworths on Bunnerong Rd has the best available street parking on Daunt Avenue. If you park here, you should still be within walking distance.

Please remember with most motorhome/camper rentals, you will not be parking underground!

Alternatively, depending on your location for your first night, it might be worthwhile looking for a supermarket closer to your destination for the night away from the hustle and bustle of Syndey city.

Recommended Hotels/Motels

Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens

Aboriginal Australia Welcome Film – The Aboriginal Heritage Tour at Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney, NSW

We are not affiliated with hotels in and around Sydney but thought we’d suggest a couple of potential places to stay at one of the hotels around the depots for before and after you have dropped off your motorhome.

If you are collecting your motorhome from Apollo | Cheapa | Hippie and Star RV a couple of suggestions are:

The Metro Hotel Miranda,522 Kingsway, Miranda NSW 2228. Tel:(02) 9525 7577

Abcot Inn, 410 Princes Hwy, Sylvania NSW 2224. Tel:(02) 9544 6444

For the Maui | Britz | Mighty depot a couple of suggestions are:

The Branksome Hotel & Residences, 60 Robey St, Mascot NSW 2020. Tel:(02) 8338 3288

Felix Hotel, 121 Baxter Rd, Mascot NSW 2020. Tel:(02) 8303 8888

If you are spending some time in the city centre first, we recommend checking out Wotif.com and Booking.com for some great online deals.  This will show you a range of hotels with varying facilitates and rates, so you should be able to find something that will meet your needs. Please also be aware that with any city hotels in Australia, the accommodation can get booked up well in advance.

Recommended Campgrounds

Sydney Beaches

Sydney Beaches

Around Sydney itself, you are a bit more challenged in finding a campground right by the depots.  There is the odd one, but they do have mixed reviews.  If you are looking for a site fairly close to Sydney on the way in or out, this might suit you.

This one is if you decide to head north after pick up/coming in from the north:

Lane Cove Caravan Park41 Surfers Parade, Freshwater, NSW Tel: +61 2 9400 9580

Otherwise if you are heading south, this one is nearer Wollongong

Bulli Beach Tourist Park1 Farrell Road, Bulli, NSW. Tel: +61 2 4285 5677

Getting around Sydney

If you are heading out of the Maui | Britz | Mighty depot which is located south of Sydney CBD, picking up the M1 (The Southern Cross Drive) which will take you north or south or the M5 East which incidentally takes you out west and turns into the S Western Motorway (Toll Road).

Apollo | Cheapa | Hippie and Star RV is situated even further south of the city and airport with the main highway being the A1 taking you north or south predominantly a coastal road. You will need to look out for the A6 if you are looking for a westerly exit out of this depot.

Taronga Zoo, Sydney, NSW

Sydney is one of the cities that has toll roads (along with Melbourne and Brisbane). When you get to the depot, they should explain more to you during your pick up of the vehicle. We do suggest though setting yourself up with a holiday toll pass. You can arrange for yourself to have a temporary account for your stay, all you need is the number plate entered onto the Toll Company website and the toll charges will automatically be charged to the account you submit.   This can only be set up once you have your motorhome rental, as you’ll need your number plate.

Alternatively, you can call up or jump online to make payment of the toll charge and pay as you go, but you must make this payment within two-three days of using a toll road.

It is our suggestion that if you are staying in or around Sydney for a while that you leave your motorhome at the accommodation you are staying at. Congestion around Sydney can be fraught at the best of times! Catch a tram, train or bus into the city centre. You can find out more about the public transport services for Sydney here on the Transport NSW site to find the easiest mode of transport in getting around Sydney.

Also for your preparations for organising your stay, you could also contact the Visitor Information Centres, check out their website here to get the latest and up to date information on the area you are staying for more information on what’s on too.

If you are still in the midst of planning your trip around NSW or around Australia, check out our invaluable page Travel Routes as we provide lots of useful information on some of the best places to go and see when cruising around this magnificent country. You could also check out our blog post on the coastal route between Sydney and Melbourne – we have a video showing you some of the amazing sights not to be missed along the way!
